Ideas APart

An Array of Artwork by Jefferson County High School's First AP Art Class

Holly Blackmon

Within each work of art, the possibilities in communicating mood and meaning are endless. And whether it’s simplicity in color, an eerie depth, or bright detail, every work brings a different emotion to the table. I have chosen two works from my Breadth collection and one from my Concentration for College Board. These three have been chosen because I believe each piece possesses a range of qualities that contrast the others and represent my tendency to vary my style.

Charcoal has become a favored use in mediums of mine (“Run from What?” and “Bottoms Up”). At times, it becomes a challenge to create contrast in darks and lights, but is easy to blend and create detailed marks. Oil pastels and paint are other mediums that I used in these art works (“Saint Brushes” and “Run from What?”). In my experimentation in Breadth, I found they are useful when layering for detail or mark making. These varying artworks are a good representation of myself and the types of works I love creating.
