An Array of Artwork by Jefferson County High School's First AP Art Class

Brandon Kirby

Being in AP Art has given me a good opportunity to define myself as an artist. One thing it has helped me with is finding the media I feel most comfortable using. My favorite material to use by far is a pencil because I can shade really well and am able to erase if I mess up. Besides finding my materials I have also found different techniques involving mark making to make my artwork as good as possible.

I have also changed from my old style of art which was mostly realism and focusing only on detail and being observational. Now since my theme for my concentration is Revelations, I have to draw things that aren’t normal and sort of imagine what I think they would look like. I’ve realized that I like doing art on the fantasy and surreal side a lot more than what I used to do. This has also given me a chance to express my religion through art so I am very excited to see how it turns out.
